Entry for July 29, 2008

We've had a lot of changes since my last entry. Anna, the nail tech / stylist that was fresh out of school has quit already. Fortunatly I've hired a new stylist / nail tech and she already has a solid clientelle base. Her name is Nelly, she has been doing hair for over 14 years and is very customer orientated.

Massage has settled into a 10 clients a week business. Not bad but I wish I could get more new people on the table each week. It seems like I'm only getting 1 or 2 new people a week. I feel it needs to be more like 4 a week if I'm ever going to reach my goal of having 15 clients a week.

Tanning is down to less than 10 people a day. I've put most of my tanning lotions on sale for half price. Hopefully they will get sold by the end of summer.

I've given up almost all forms of advertising for the moment. I don't have an extra dime to spend right now! Hopefully the addition of an established stylist (Nelly) will give me enough of an income boost to get things back on track.

Entry for June 5, 2008

One of my stylist is gone now. I'm down to one stylist with her managers license and one stylist/nail tech that is fresh out of school. It kinda bums me out but I think in the long run its for the best. The other stylist/nail tech with her managers license had  a terrible attendance problem and it was costing me customers.

Tanning has quieted down alot. The end of May/beginning of June is when it died off last year also. Its down 50% in the last 2 weeks compared to the 2 weeks before that. It should hold at this rate through the summer and then drop off again about the time school starts back up.

I seem to have timed my tanning lotion supply pretty well. My shelves are stocked but only lightly. I bought an extra 64 ounce bottle of a lotion called "Liquid Adrenaline" that everyone loves and now I still have that on the counter. Other than that I am happy with my inventory levels

Massage is going well. My one year goal was to have 10 massages scheduled at the beginning of each week and end up with 15 by the end of the week. I do that more weeks than not.

I've dropped the trivia question for tanning. It had lost its "punch". In its place we are playing a version of yahtzee. We are going to play it until July first. People seem to like it and I'm giving away some good prizes, which always helps!

Ok thats all I have for now. I will check back in a couple weeks.

Entry for April 26, 2008
We are having about 30+ tanners a day. I'm pretty happy with that. I've started only taking one reservation per time slot for the tanning beds even though we have 2 beds. Hopefully that will allow us to keep the tanners from having to wait too long for a bed. With only 2 beds it is hard to keep them from getting backed up at times.
We have a new stylist/nail tech starting today. Anna is fresh out of school and can only work evenings a couple of days during the week but that should help us out alot.
I've decided not to advertise anywhere until tanning season is over. I barely have time to get the massages in from my regular clientelle as it is. And even with all the tanning business I can't afford to pay for a desk clerk.
I am going to pay for a highway sign though. Hopefully that will help pull people into the village.
Gotta go for now...

Entry for April 1, 2008

Tanning season keeps getting steadily busier and I've gotten a few new massage clients. So all that's positive. On the negative side one of my stylist walked out on a busy Saturday morning!

I'm going to see my son Thursday and won't be back for a couple weeks. I'm kinda nervous about leaving for that long during tanning season but I can't do much about it. Once I return I'm going to start opening from 8am to 8pm for tanning and probably for a few hours on Sunday too.

I have some monetary ideas I need to work on. I'm considering revamping what and how I charge for hair color services. I'll probably sit down when I get back and work something out. I also need to sit down and write out what I payout each month. I'm never going to get a good/positive cash flow going unless I add up all my bills!

Entry for March 6, 2008

Life is much better now than it was the last time I posted! Steph is back, she is only working Saturdays but that helps out quite alot.

Plus a young girl who is about to graduate from Grant is going to start working in MidApril. She can only work Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and Saturdays but that will be a tremendous help to us. Emily is going to help her learn to do acrylic nails but she is comfortable with all the other services. I'm sure we are going to have to babysit her for awhile to ensure she is doing quality work but that shouldn't cause any problems.

Massage is steadily getting busier so I'm thrilled with that!

Tanning has taken off and it's not even tanning season yet. We did 20 tanners a few days ago and have gotten close to that many everyday this week. In the next few weeks I expect to be getting nearly 40 a day.

I've decide to start pushing products more.  I need to increase my income and thats the best way I can see to increase it. Other wise I'm going to have to raise my prices and I think that will lose me alot of clients.
